A day out in La Gacilly to see the « So British » exhibition

Last Friday, with the year-10 classes, we went to La Gacilly for a day out. It was a day out organised by the English teachers because we saw the exhibition entitled ‘’So British’’. It was about the clichés of the English society such as the double-decker bus, the red phone box, the admiration for the King or Queen, the pubs and the horse races. It was an exhibition with just photos. In the morning, we had to complete a document with questions about the photos and the authors. Next, we ate a picninc along a river. It was a good moment. After, at 2 pm, we walked in the town center with our class. In the afternoon, we chose a photo and took notes about this photo to do a presentation in class. My photo was a photo with many people in a double-decker bus and in a black cab. They are looking at something in the sky, maybe a famous monument. I chose this photo with my group because we found it was the best representation of the off-the-wall humour of ‘’Britishness’’. For me, the day out was cool and the photos were interesting but it was cold in the morning. The walk in the town center was my best moment of the day.

First, we went in the beautiful village by bus, during one hour. I thought the exhibition wasn’t interesting before visiting it but finally it was a great day ! When we arrived, we walked in the exhibition to look round first and explain the questions. In groups of 3, we answered on our worksheet. Then, we had lunch and we went to the different streets. The village is very beautiful, cute and bucolic, with colourful flowers, old houses, little cafés or traditional shops and cobbled streets. We saw two other very magnificent exhibitions. In the afternoon, in groups, we had to choose a photo and look closely at it. With my friend, we chose a picture by Mary Turner. Honestly, I love Mary Turner’s photos that show old England or natural landscapes. Finally, we came back in Liffré by bus, that was too noisy. In fact, the day was really great, but it was very cold. There was wind. Luckily, it didn’t rain !
